How I started Learning French

I’ve always been charmed by the romantic sound of the French language, and who is not!!

I’ve dreamed about speaking French and understanding its flowery accent, flowing sentences and messy spellings. Until on day last year, I’ve decided to learn the basics of French on my own. I had a clear, specific goal: Being able to introduce myself in French. 

I spent many nights searching in anything came on my way: YouTube channels, online courses websites and smartphone applications to get the input method  that fits my goal. I crossed out using the online courses I found because they were slow-paced, boring  and it would take ages to reach ” Bounjore! je m’applle Sumaia!“.

I liked the idea of using e-learning language applications since learning a language requires consistent exposure. Therefore, the close-at-hand applications enable me to spend 15 minutes of learning daily.  My plan was to learn slow but steady. So I work on one lesson each day to understand the material. Moreover, I spend 5 days in learning new lessons or doing tasks and 2 days for a revision of all the previous lessons from lesson 1. sometimes, I use my notes for a quick revision.

من أكثر الأسئلة التي تُعرض على من يتقن تحدث اللغة الإنجليزية هي : كيف طورت لغتك وحسنت النطق عندك؟ يعني تقدر تشوف فيلم بدون ترجمة؟!

الأفلام ومقاطع الفيديو هي إجابة الأغلبية، ونعم “تقدر” توصل لمرحلة إنك “تشوف” فيلم بدون ترجمة بالتدريب.

Useful Tips For Taking Writing Exam

      Writing  assignments are easy and fun when you know how to do them well.  Moreover, writing for exams is not different from writing  assignments through out the semester. Here are some tips to helps you nail the writing exams

1-Understand the Topic Well:  never start writing without reading the instructions. Understanding the certain information required in your essay helps you got the scores of comprehension.  This is part of The RCOW process (pronounced are-cow) of writing exams . it is an acronym of Read – Comprehend – Outline – write. After comprehension, brain-Strom and think of main ideas. Make an outline of the essay.

2-Recognize the Text Type: Follow the structure and instructions of each text type (description, report, letter , argument, opinion text). you have been through each text type over each unit. Study the main requirements of each text type including the appropriate tense. Notice the mistakes you have made previously to avoid them in the exam.

3-Follow the Pyramid Diagram: Start your essay with an introduction. Begin with a broad general statement about the topic. Then, use the most powerful idea at the first paragraph. Each paragraph should start with a general theses statement. Hence, you make the idea clear and then get into details for the rest of the paragraph. Finally, your text needs a conclusion. It is discussed in point 9 below.

عند تعّلم اللغة عليك ممارستها باستمرار حتى لا تفقد مهاراتها فتحتاج إلى البداية مجددًا بعد كل فترة انقطاع، فلا تكتفي بما درسته وتنقطع عن اللغة خلال فترة الإجازة ، بل اجعل في روتينك اليومي شيء ولو بسيط من ممارسة اللغة، وممارسة الاستماع Listening سيحافظ على مستوى اللغة لديك وينميها دون مجهود يذكر.

النشرات الصوتية Podcasts هي من أمتع ما يمكنك الاستماع إليه، تتنوع المواضيع وتتخصص بعض القنوات في تعليم اللغة الإنجليزية ، وهنا بعض النشرات الصوتية  المفيدة يمكنك الاستماع إليها ومتابعة جديدها من خلال RSS أو iTunes:

كيف تبدأ القراءة باللغة الإنجليزية؟

القراءة هي من أهم طرق تطوير اللغة، فهي تنمي مهارات عديدة فتتعرف من خلالها على مفردات جديدة وطرق استخدام قواعد اللغة كما تطور أسلوب الكتابة فتجد تراكيب يمكنك استخدامها في كتاباتك فتصبح لغتك الإنجليزية طبيعية أكثر، والأهم من هذا فهي تنقل لك ثقافة اللغة الإنجليزية.

لكن بماذا تبدأ إذا أردت أن تقرأ؟

يمكنك البدء بقراءة القصص بالإنجليزية المبسطة مثل مجموعة The Oxford Bookworm Library، فهي مقسمة بحسب المستوى و تقدم أنشطة ما قبل القراء وأسئلة بعد القراءة وملخص بأهم الكلمات ومعانيها، وتتوفر مع أقراص CD فتستطيع الاستماع للقصة وتتعرف على النطق الصحيح للكلمات.

مع تطور التقنية وتعدد طرق تعلّم اللغة ظهرت مجموعة من التقنيات والتطبيقات التي تساعد الطالب على تطوير ذاته، وفي هذه السلسلة سأذكر مجموعة أدوات لتطوير مهارات اللغة من كتابة وقواعد وقراءة واستماع، ونبدأ في هذه التدوينة بمهارة الكتابة..

أفضل فكرة لتطوير كتاباتك هي الممارسة،  ابحث عن مواضيع لتكتب عنها باستمرار وقد تفضل الاحتفاظ بمفكرة ورقية أو الكترونية للتدوين، لكن من سيتولى تصحيح النصوص لك وكيف تتعرف على أخطاءك؟
